Certified dog trainer (Norwegian Kennel Klub). Hunting instructor (NJFF).

  • 2004-present: Norwegian Institute for Nature Research (NINA) Senior Research Scientist, Division for Human-Environment Interactions, NINA. Key areas: Resource conflicts, protected areas, mountain development, human-wildlife interactions, tourism, developing countries
  • 1999-2003: Norwegian Institute for Nature Research (NINA) Research Director and Assistant Research Director, Division for Human-Environment Interactions. Approx. 15 scientists working on human dimensions of natural resources and land use. Annual turnover of approx. NOK 12 mill (US$ 2 mill.). Main tasks: designing research proposals, attracting funding, Advising, co-ordinating and quality control of projects. Active research within key qualification areas
  • 1993-1999: Eastern Norway Research Institute Senior research scientist/project leader Member of interdisciplinary environmental research group. Responsible for projects and teams of scientists working with nature tourism research, management, impact assessments, resource conflicts, local community development. Also responsible for project designs and strategic planning for key areas for the institution, as well as projects in developing countries

  • 1983-1985: Ministry of Environment (part time 1984 - 1985) Information staff Information and communications work arranging courses for resource professionals in information tasks, working with schools, exhibits, audio-visual presentations, press conferences and campaigns. Member of a team developing recreational management policy and an inventory system for recreational research as part of the environmental impact assessment process.
