Knowledge areas
I am a microbiologist and bioinformatician by training. I use molecular methods (particuarly DNA-based) to study interactions between animals, microbes and their environment (diet, habitat, etc). I am particularly interested in:
  • Microbial ecology
  • Host-associated microbial communities (microbiomes)
  • Interactions between hosts, their microbiomes and their environment
  • Infectious diseases
  • Environmental antibiotic resistance
  • Ancient DNA
  • Holobiont (host-microbiome) evolution
I mostly use -omics methods, such as:
  • Shotgun metagenomics
  • Metabarcoding (microbes, animals, plants)
  • Population genomics (animals)
  • Comparative genomics (bacteria)
  • Transcriptomics
  • Multi-omics integration
  • Hologenomics
I work with many systems, but my main focus has been:
  • Reindeer and other ungulates
  • Scandinavian brown bear
  • farmed Atlantic salmon
