Work experience (selected):

  • 2015-Present: Position as Senior Research Scientist at the Norwegian Institute for Nature Research (NINA). Project leader in several projects.
  • 2015-Present: Position as Researcher at NTNU, Department of Biology (AfricanBioServices). Task leader and deputy work package leader.
  • 2012-2015: Understanding the evolution and maintenance of host range in a generalist parasite – the paradox of sympatric host races. Project leader. 3-year research project funded by the Research Council of Norway (RCN).
  • 2006-Present: Official supervisor for 40 MSc- and 7 PhD- (6 graduated so far) students in evolutionary biology, conservation biology, natural resource management and behavioural ecology at NTNU, University of the Highlands and Islands, Scotland and University of Sofia, Bulgaria
  • 2006-2011: Position as Associate Professor at Department of Biology, NTNU. In charge of lecturing duties, research and supervision of students and administrative work for Head of Department.
  • 1998-Present: 122 scientific papers (115 appearing in ISI Web of Science) published or in press in peer-reviewed international scientific journals like Animal Behaviour, Behavioral Ecology, Behavioral Ecology and Sociobiology, Biological Conservation, Biology Letters, Evolution, Evolution & Human Behavior, Journal of Animal Ecology, Journal of Evolutionary Biology, Nature Communications, Oikos, PLoS ONE, Proceedings of the Royal Society B and Scientific Reports.
    • H-index on ISI Web of Science is currently 37.
    • Participation in numerous TV and radio programs (Czech, German, Norwegian and Swedish national broadcasting companies).
    • Author of five popular scientific books and one book chapter about avian brood parasitism, and a book chapter on invasive species.
    • Scientific consultant in production of 6 popular scientific books. Three of these for children.
    • Numerous popular scientific papers, book contributions, notes and interviews in journals, web pages and newspapers.
    • Participation in 35 international conferences (6 invited key-note lectures).
    • More than 40 invited guest lectures at universities, institutions and academies in Norway, Japan, France, UK, Denmark, China and Bangladesh.
    • Secured approximately 250,000,000 NKr in external funding (as main applier or as participant in successful applications).
