Veterinarian with dr.med.vet. (Norwegian equivalent of PhD) in pathology. Long experience in performing necropsies and pathoanatomical diagnostics both in domesticated animals and wildlife. Previously executive officer in national widlife health surveillance programs at the National Veterinary Institute. Research fields has been ortopaedic pathology, ticks and tick-borne diseases, deer ked and potential deer ked-borne diseases and the interplay between environmental change, pathogens and health of animals and humans. Ytrehus is deeply involved in the work with chronic wasting disease in Norway. Member of the Norwegian Scientific Committee for Food and Environment.
He is also animal welfare officer and head of the animal welfare unit at NINA, and do consequently work quite a lot with animal wellfare in field research.
